The first helicopter flight
On 13 November 1907, the French engineer Paul Cornu lifted off in a twin-rotor machine near Lisieux, rising a short distance off the ground for about 20 seconds. It is regarded as the first free flight of a helicopter carrying a person. Practical helicopters followed in the 1930s and 1940s.
